Men were separated from women & children. Men & women ate separately. There were no recreation provided by the Immigration Authority. After Dinner, everybody were herded back to the barracks & locked in the barrackes until the next day. Lights-out at 9 PM. Each area had a yard that was fenced in by barbed wire. They were only allowed on the outside once every week. Recreation were provided by the immigrants with what ever they bought with them. Waiting periods for interrogation could last months, & dentention could last years. Other Asians were only detained for only two - three days. Through-out the compound could be seen poems in Chinese calligraphy written on the walls through the years describing the in-human conditions that they were going through. Many of these poems have been preserved in Chinese publications. A total of 135 poems has been recorded. The State Park inscribed a few of these poems on to plaques & can be seen at the Immigration Station.
